Essentials of Hazardous Materials Management Course

A comprehensive review of environmental laws and regulations and basic health and safety principles. This is a four-day course, given one day each week for four weeks.

Course Description:

The course uses the “Hazardous Materials Management Desk Reference” as a text and comprehensive review of Federal Environmental Laws and Regulations and the basic health and safety principles. It is designed to assist individuals preparing to take the Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (CHMM) national certification examination administered by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM).  While course participants have passed the CHMM certification exam at higher than average rates, no guarantees for passage can be offered.  Text Book and Course Materials are included.

Topics Covered:

• The statutory and regulatory framework of environmental and hazardous materials management.
• Compliance Standards and State-of-the-Art work practices on:
  Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal; Hazardous Material Storage; Packaging; Radioactive Materials; Workplace Safety; Spills; Cleanup; Hazards Assessment and Communication.
• Basic and applied hazardous materials management principles, controls and concepts
• Science and technology of hazardous materials management
• Chemical and physical characteristics
• Sampling and analysis
• Biological effects of hazardous materials
• Toxicology, Geology/hydrology

The CHMM Examination

The CHMM Certification is issued by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management. A Separate Application & Fee is required for the Exam Contact the Institute at www.ihmm.org for additional information on where and when the test may be taken.

Course Instructors:

The Course will be presented by a team of instructors from the New Jersey chapter who have over 80 years of combined expertise in the subject matter and in teaching the topics.

Tuition:

The course fee is $800.00 and is payable to “ACHMM-NJ” Registrations must be received by September 17, 2012.
